New Mums, not Old Mothers

An excellent article out of the UK about women having first children later in life. When I was growing up, anyone over 30 was doing it “later in life,” but now 40 is even generally accepted as youthful for childbearing years. It still presents its own unique set of challenges, however.
Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman is expecting her first child this summer. The 40-year-old has reportedly been desperate for a baby with husband Keith Urban and the pair were said to be thrilled at her impending motherhood…. Here we speak to three women who have had babies in their 40s to find out how they coped with having children later on in life
CHEF Lorna Bishop had her first child Freya, now eight, when she was 36-years-old and her second child Ailie, now two, at 41
“I also decided not to have a Caesarean the second time, even though a lot of people were telling me to opt for one. I am so glad I didn’t.
“Having a natural birth made me feel like I had actually had a baby and made the aftermath so much easier to handle.
I love that she had a VBAC, despite what others were telling her to do. There’s nothing says you have to have a VBAC just to preserve your future pregnancies (since multiple cesareans are not encouraged); it can be done simply for the experience and safety of your child.
