Study Says Mother’s Diet Shapes Children’s Weight

AUSTRALIAN scientists have made the world-first discovery that a pregnant woman’s diet determines whether her baby grows into a fat adult or a skinny one.The research suggests women who are overweight before they fall pregnant, and during it, may condemn their children to a life of overeating and obesity.

Personally, I don’t think it’s as cut and dried as this. I think that a woman’s eating habits will largely determine how overweight she is, and those things tend not to change. So a woman who eats trans fats, few veggies and lots of sugar, will tend to feed those same foods to her children. Also, there’s that whole part about genetics… Despite my doubts about this study, we all need to recognize the long term effects of unhealthy eating on ourselves and our children. I have no doubt that eating unhealthy during pregnancy has a detrimental effect on the fetus.
