Young Woman Gives Birth in Bathroom While Boyfriend Sleeps

Bemused Antony Probets told yesterday how he slept through the birth of his baby - as his girlfriend delivered it herself in their bathroom.
The 19-year-old chef was vaguely aware of Gemma McSheffrey’s screams as he snored away but thought he was just having a bad dream.
And he only came to when Gemma, 20, staggered back into the bedroom cradling their crying 7lb 3oz girl in her arms.
Embarrassed Antony said: “I thought I was dreaming so that’s why I didn’t wake up.
“When I realised it was real I was so shocked. I’m sad because I wanted to be there for the birth but I am so proud of Gemma.”
Gemma said: “I was screaming for Antony all the time but he was fast asleep so I did it all on my own. Then I walked into the bedroom with the baby in my arms.
“Antony is a heavy sleeper.
I can never wake him and he’s always the last one up.”
Antony added: “Gemma was supposed to have a water birth so I suppose it was close enough in the bathroom.”
